Present
  • Simple: do/does + V (facts, habits)
  • Continuous: am/is/are + V‑ing (in progress)
  • Perfect: have/has + V3 (result now)
  • Perfect Cont.: have/has been + V‑ing (duration to now)
Past
  • Simple: did + V (finished past)
  • Continuous: was/were + V‑ing (background)
  • Perfect: had + V3 (earlier past)
  • Perfect Cont.: had been + V‑ing (duration before past)
Future
  • Simple: will + V (decisions, predictions)
  • Continuous: will be + V‑ing (in progress at a time)
  • Perfect: will have + V3 (completed by time)
  • Perfect Cont.: will have been + V‑ing (duration to a time)
Quick Tips
  • Simple = point; Continuous = in‑progress
  • Perfect = before another time; Perf. Cont. = how long
  • Practice rows (Present/Past/Future), then columns (aspects)
